Navadvipa Dhama parikram
Srila Narayana Maharaja and his party arrived in Sri Navadvipa dhama on February 20, 2007. He had returned to India in the beginning of February, after being in Hawaii for several months, where he was continuing his translation work and where he held a week-long harikatha festival. On his way back from Hawaii, he had spent a couple of days in Taiwan, a few days in Calcutta, and then engaged in a four day preaching program in various villages in East Bengal.
Upon his arrival in Navadvipa, he inspected the kitchen and spoke with resident devotees about the ongoing construction and the arrangements for Sri Navadvipa dh ama parikrama. Following his discussions, guru-puja was performed. He then briefly told the Indian and Western devotees present about his preaching in the West, and also about his Bengal village programs. He said that he was very moved by villagers' welcome, and that every day so many were attending his classes and kirtanas.
The following evenings he spoke about the glory of Navadvipa, Navadvipa parikrama, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. On the morning of February 25th, under his guidance, 10,000 international pilgrims went to the bank of the beautiful, sacred Ganges to perform sankalpa (uttering mantras, making vows and taking bath in Ganges). The next day, Feb. 26, the number of pilgrims reached over 15,000. There are now about 10,000 Bengali devotees and ab out 5,000 other Indians and Westerners. All these international pilgrims began their parikrama by crossing the Ganges and visiting the island of Antardvipa.
