I just wanted to ask the devotees in this tribe what they think about this ...
Although i joined through ISKCON and became a "hare krsna," I have for a while now not associated myself with ISKCON, although i do visit its temples and i still have friends who i met during my stint in the ashram, travels, etc., who still associate themselves w/ISKCON. This is including the fact that i received harinama & diksa initiation from an ISKCON guru, with whom i have for a while rejected because i have stopped believing in him for reasons i would not like to get into at the moment.
Now i consider myself a Gaudiya Vaisnava. The way i see it, there is a difference--I find it a little difficult to explain, but i think "Hare Krsna" is the hardcore western definition of Gaudiya Vaisnava (because of course, they are technically/ultimately the same). ISKCON's focus is and has been different than my Guru Maharaja's (Tripurari Swami). Despite the changes that ISKCON HAS implemented, it is still more inflexible, there is less focus on the siddhanta (too much concern of "doing it right"), and so much rigidness. Now, this is not to say that there aren't any truly amazing Vaisnavas who are part of ISKCON. But there is an overshadowing. I don't know--maybe this is all carried over from a place in time that was really a turn off.
My Guru Maharaja was ostrasized by ISKCON when Srila Prabhupada left this planet because he received siska from Sridhara Swami. ISKCON still will not formally acknowledge him, although several ISKCON sannyasis have visiting him at his monastery (audarya www.swami.org/sanga/) in the mountains of the redwood forest (roughly two, three hours north of SF). That to me is a problem, but it's a separate issue at hand.
I was mostly curious to see how the devotees in this tribe interpret the meaning of the label "Hare Krsna" and "Gaudiya Vaisnava." If there is a difference to them, and what is that difference? Any other topics in relation to this is certainly welcome.

Re: Hare Krsna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 1:19 PMdear caitanya daya devi dasi!
i totally hear what u are saying about how rigid iskcon was/is and all about "doing it the right way". in the name of perfection etc, many were hurt and either fled or rejected a pure n beautiful way of life. but, i really think that things have changed. i mean, look at me for example, im the "sunday feast" pujari and im quite unorthodox, truth be told ima lil flashy ;) but ppl seem to love me the way i am and recognize that it doesnt inhibit my abilities as a pujari. im thankful krsna is this merciful to me.
i usually refer to myself as a vaisnava brahmana- until ppl ask what is that? lol. then i say ima hare krsna. mind u im not embarrased about it either. i love public chanting (even tho i only go out on harinam about once a year;) and am proud to belong to such a rich spiritual culture. I love tripurari maharaja as i do all vaisnavas, even narayana maharajs disciples (imagine that) i think they r a lil preachy but thats another story.... brass tacks, if u love the big K ur aite in mah book. i also use gaudiya vaisnava.

Re: Hare Krsna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava
Sun, November 13, 2005 - 2:10 AMMy self i like to associate with all the great souls that speak about the glories of the Lord And i realy tink that betwen hare Krsna an Gourya vaisnavas there is not diferent Isckon devotes are Goudya Vaisnavas folowers of Lord Caytania and the six goswamis of Vrndavana. Is true that some devotees are quite heavy and they do made others freak out but this hapens in isckon and in the goudya math and in independent temples becouse Isckon and any ather institucion is made off persons and all of us have diferent personalitis. I also take lots of shelter with Puri Maharaja a part of my Guru Maharaja wo is and Isckon Guru Gopal Krsna Maharaja .The most important is not to make ofensses to any Vaisnava and for me the most important to folow the instruccions of are saviur and master His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada if we do that we are protected and we can go with the devotess wo inspire us the most in are devotional life
Yours in the services of the vaisnavas
Priya Sakhi dd (your name Caitanya daya is a very beutifull name and is the first time i see it Radhe Syama

Re: Hare Krsna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava
Tue, December 13, 2005 - 5:18 PMUh...excuse me but if Tripurari Maharaja didn't reject Srila Prabhupada then why did he go over to the Gaudiya Matha when Srila Prabhupada said not to associate with his godbrothers who were envious of Srila Prabhupada and did not join ISKCON to help when he asked them to.
Later on he told some of his disciples he could go to his godbrothers for some technical advice only, on how to perform his last rites and so on but some foolish disciples who already had the tendency to take everything very cheaply went over to the Matha and some of them rejected the Matha to join the sahajiya babas at Radha kunda and so on.
So he can "CLAIM" not to have rejected Prabhupada like all the rest of the devotees who switched over and even took new names in many cases but the fact is he switched, sorry. Didn't he even translate a new Bhagavad-Gita? What a joke! -

Tue, December 13, 2005 - 5:39 PM"Oh Prabhupada is only the spiritual master who first introduced me to Krishna, but my REAL guru is the one who taught me I was a manjari, not Prabhupada. My real guru is in the Gaudiya Matha and says he is a manjari and I believe him so that is why I changed my name."
"But I am STILL A PRABHUPADA DISCIPLE!"

Re: Hare Krsna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava
Thu, December 15, 2005 - 4:47 PMDear Manu prabhu,
I made a mess over at Arcana? That is news to me. I went there after having a problem of wanting to serve Srimati Radharani as my favorite Diety and knowing that I shouldn't feel that way not being advanced enough and not getting the answers I was looking for at Radha.tribe.
I feel the tribes have helped me because I still feel attached to Her but no longer am I such a sahajiya who feels I already have a special relationship with Radharani. Sometimes lawyers argue in court but outside of court remain friends so even though I was arguing with Makhancor Prabhu at Radha tribe his advice helped me. I was just hoping for a conclusion that would satisfy me 100% which I felt I never got.
As far as trying to "wreak havoc" I only have five days left but the topic here is "Hare Krishna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava" so I felt I had to put in my two cents for the Hare Krishna side, even if the conclusions are my own speculations and therefore subject to defects.
But thanks for calling me a troll, offensive and he/she/it and then turning around and saying you are the servant of ALL vaisnavas

Re: Hare Krsna vs. Gaudiya Vaisnava
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 5:11 PMSomehow I seem to be the only devotee on the planet who cares to know what mood to be in while praying to tulsi devi. Sorry that is such a mess to you. I shouldn't be wasting krsna's energy and time on ridiculous things such as knowing what mood to pray in, but you know what? I am going to anyway because I can't help it.
Merry Christmas!
lol if you think I made a mess at Radha.tribe try going to the ISKCONIRM, I went over there with the intention to fight and had fun for a day or two until they kicked me out. What was the name I was using over there again? Oh yes Dusty. -
