A long time ago, 1971 actually. the temple president reported that Srila Prabhupada had said pictures of Sri Krsna should show His whole body from the crown on His head to His feet. Other pictures were not really Krsna and should be avoided. Can anyone locate any quotes by Srila Prabhupada on this subject?

From what i understand. It wasn't that those pics were not really Krishna but one should worship the lord in a complete form. It is most likely in the Siksamrta if you can get a hold of it.

this is indeed correct. if u are worshipping, then u need the complete form. but one can also admire just the face, the feet, etc....

Manu, you bring up a good point. One can certaintly admire Krsna's face, feet, etc. So, maybe the statement attributed to Prabhupada was based on time and circumstance. ISKCON had no Radha-Krsna deities in those days. We didn't even have tulasi japa malas. Incredible prasadam, though. Some people joined just for the food. It was that good. But, I digress. So no deities = no deity pics. No Faceshots. No feet. The first image I saw of Krsna's face was that wierd one where they modelled Him after a silent movie actress. The only "authorized" images we had were Murli Manohar, Gopala, etc. So, maybe the completeness thing was a matter of time and circumstance.

I think I do have a copy of the Srila Prabhupada Siksamrita, but it's in storage in Oregon. (Surprise! I lived in Portland (your neck of the woods, I believe) for a couple years. Garden Home, to be specific. It didn't work out.) But, I'll look for one at the LA temple this weekend.

Om purnam adah purnam idam. The Supreme Lord is perfect and complete. So, one can only worship Krishna in a ciomplete form. There's no such thing as an incomplete form of Krishna. I don't know if this is still done in ISKCON temples, but way back when, if it was necessary to discard a picture of Sri Krsna, we tore it in half before adding it to the sacred throw away. Ripping the picture in two de-Krsnaized it. Does this sound familiar or are you guys thinking, "What the? Where did he get that?"
